Brief Answer:
Possibly bacterial or amoebic infection

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thanks for your query at HCM

I understand your concern.

According to you your son has pulmonary tuberculosis and started on ATT. What drugs he is taking? What were his complaints? How was it diagnosed? If tubercular etiology was established and put on anti tubercular it is correct. He has to take treatment without stopping. Don't stop the treatment as bleeding seems unrelated.

ATT does not cause bleeding until unless patient has severe systemic allergy which will manifest with various other symptoms as well. It is possible that he has developed intestinal infection due to amoebiasis or shigella dysentery. What is colour of stool red or black? You can get stool routine microscopy examination and culture done. He needs to start antibiotics like metronidazole and ofloxacin and omeprazole after prescription. Give plenty of fluids ORS. If he has small amount of fresh blood it could be hemorrhoids, fissures, colitis he needs to visit gastroenterologist who might do coloscopy to find the cause. If too much bleeding visit emergency healthcare facilities.

Hope I answered your query.

Thank you Madam for your detailed reply.Actually I need to tell you that he was diagnosed with acute pschychosis in XXXXXXX 2014 since when he is under regular medication for that.Presently the dosage for that are OLEE 5 one tablet in night and 1/2 tablet of AMPICON 100 in morning. He is otherwise normal at present except some dullness may be due to this medication.

He was having temperature in nights for last two-three months.Since he was at his hostel away from home, he took some calpol and ciplox sort of medicine during that period but since he was normal in the day, nothing striked us.

Since 26 Dec he started vomitting just after some meal and before taking bath due to excess feeling of cold. When he came back on 10 XXXXXXX 2015 to home,I noticed the fever symptom starting from evening. Then we consulted Physician who got him verious tests done. His X-Ray report, ultrasound report and WBC count a little risen showed that he is having T.B.

The Doctor has started the medicine for T.B.

My worry is whether the medicines for the two illness go together. Will it harm my son's body/organs? How to go further with the medication though the chest specialist we consulted is saying that the medicines will go together and he will be alright.

Please give me your view and how should we handle this grave situation.

Brief Answer:
Absolutely no problem if medicines given together.

Detailed Answer:
Hi..
There is no need to worry as it is not a grave problem as there are effective treatment available. Yes the symptoms of evening rise of temperature for months, loss of weight, loss of appetite, night sweats, etc are seen in tuberculosis. Your son is getting absolutely right treatment. Just make sure he takes medicines regularly everyday as it is very crucial for treatment along with multivitamins. If he has psychosis and taking medicine for it there is no problem in talking anti tubercular treatment. It is absolutely safe and effective. There will be no damage both medicines do not interact with each other. Just relax. Regularly follow-up with pulmonologist. After treatment he will be cured.

Take care.
