Suggest Remedy For Problem While Urinating

Posted on Tue, 4 Nov 2014
Question: Recently, I began having a lot of pressure in my bladder. Each time after I have urinated, I have a burning pain like I am trying to pass a kidney stone. I have had mild incontinence for a long time, so I had catheters on hand. I began catherizing myself after urinating and a lot of blood clots, stringy clots and blood comes out each time, which gives me relief for a while. I am not able to control my urination at all so now. I am having to wear diapers. What is causing this to happen.

Brief Answer:
The CT scan will probably give the diagnosis

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

There are some important elements of your history missing. I'll mention them so that you could fill the gaps for me.
Do you have fever?
Do you have a history of urinary tract problems besides the mild incontinence?
What's the cause of your incontinence?
Do you have renal stones?
Other medical issues?

This annoying sensation after urinating can be caused by inflammation of the bladder but also by any kind of obstruction (renal stone, blood clots, cancer). Blood in the urine is also a usual sign of bladder infection. It also happens when stones injure the urinary tract or a tumor bleeds.

The fact that you were relieved by catheterization probably indicates that obstruction was the cause. All of the above situations can potentially cause some incontinence particularly when a patient already has a tendency to loose urine.

The CT scan is a very good way to approach your situation and will identify stones or tumors depending on the distance between slices (usually 3-5 mm). Besides the CT scan I would also ask for a urinalysis and urea, creatinine assays and a complete blood count.

This is a basic explanation of your situation.
If you have more questions, please ask and I'll be glad to answer.
Kind Regards!
