Suggest Remedy For Rash And Discomfort In The Groin Area

default
Posted on Mon, 1 Jun 2015
Question: Hello
asked a question last week prior to seeing GP. I have had a discomfort now in my groin area, mostly on left side, feels like my underware is constantly rubbing or too tight As if there is something there, feels very like when you have a rash, more sore than painful. There is nothing that can be seen . Went to GP yesterday who was more baffled than I, She felt for swollen glands or hernia, nothing! she took urine sample and swab a few weeks ago to check any bacterial infection, came back clear. She did an internal examination and said there was nothing that raised any red flags. Although good news that there are no real concerns, I still have the discomfort and the GP is baffled. She prescribed a course of treatment that works on nerve endings to see if that may work but this has been around now for about 3 months and I'm not sure what else to do about it, any suggestions would be welcome.

Brief Answer:
Ultrasound scan required

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Welcome to Healthcare-Magic
Greetings of the day

Dear Ms

Discomfort in one side of groin, possibility of hernia needs to be considered.
As your family physician has thoroughly examined, possibility of clinically obvious hernia is ruled out. Even then possibility of subclinical hernia needs to be considered and ruled out.
Localized hematoma or tear from inferior epigastric artery could have similar presentation. Exact diagnosis is possible by clinical examination. I would suggest you the following

1. Hot water fomentation ; It will help relieve spasm

2. Ultrasound scan of abdomen and pelvis if the symptoms still persist

Do get back to me if you need any further assistance, will be glad to assist you

Take care

Hello,
Just a thought, a friend of mine mentioned an ingrown hair, but there is nothing at all visible and no swelling or infection. The discomfort is similar to that of rubbing on a rash, but there is no rash!

Brief Answer:
Unlikely to be ingrown hair

Detailed Answer:
Dear Ms

Ingrown hair or pilonidal sinus will definitrely cause some clinical signs and findings. It is usually associated with some swelling and erythema. So it is unlikely to be the cause.

Do send me clinical photograph for exact site and further assessment.

Brief Answer:
Likely to be fungal infection

Detailed Answer:
Dear Ms

Thanks for providing clinical photograph
There is no gross abnormality.
One of the likely cause could be subclinical fungal infection especially in view of lesion present close to panty line.

I would suggest you the following

1. Combination of steroid and antifungal ointment will be helpful

2. Wear only cotton panty

3. Avoid excessive exposure to chlorinated water
