Brief Answer:
may be shingles

Detailed Answer:
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

It is possible that this is shingles. It presents with a history of a rash that may be associated with some discomfort eg stinging in your case. Others may have sticking pain, tingling, etc

It is caused by the varicella zoster virus and can be spread by contact with the rash. After it has crusted over, it is no longer contagious.

The acute rash generally lasts a week to 10 days.

This acute rash can sometimes be followed by post herpetic neuralgia in some persons.
This refers to nerve pain, which can sometimes be severe, that generally occurs in the affected area.

The shingles vaccine would reduce the chance of future acute outbreaks and would also reduce the risk of developing post herpetic neuragia.

For this acute episode, you can try the use of over the counter pain medications such as naproxen or ibuprofen but if these are not effective then your doctor can prescribe stronger pain meds for you.

I hope this helps, feel free to ask any other questions
