Suggest Remedy For Red Rashes On Chest While Having A UTI

default
Posted on Mon, 14 Dec 2015
Question: in the past several days I have developed large (2"+) red rashes on my back, and the beginning of red spots on my chest. I currently have a UTI and am taking Sulfamethoxazole (3 days) - never had rashes with S- before. One other piece of information, at the end of October I was bitten by a Deer Tick, but I had a full lab series after that = all normal. I am 82 yr old and in excellent health.

Brief Answer:
Medication might be possible cause

Detailed Answer:
Dear Sir

Welcome to this site!

I am Dr V XXXXXXX a Sr Consultant Dermatologist.

I have noted your details. Such a problem usually happens in response to antibiotics, and Sulfa group is well known as a cause. It can happen even if the drug has been well tolerated in the past.

It can be managed by considering following suggestions:

1 To change the drug suspected to be offending the skin.

2 To apply hydrocortisone cream several times a day after cleaning the area with plain water

3 To take antiallergic like Levocetirizine 5 mg a day or comparable medication

4 To watch out for fresh lesions on skin or the muco-cutaneous junctions.

Most probably, it would show positive response within a few days.

Best wishes from us!
