Suggest Remedy For Redness In Skin When Diagnosed With Cellulitis

default
Posted on Mon, 10 Aug 2015
Question: I have been diagnosed with cellulitis of the feet and lower leg. I have a constant "redness" on these areas and treat them with skin cream to prevent the skin from drying and getting an open cut.
Is there anything else I could be doing to reduce or eliminate the "redness." I also experience pain sometimes during every day, on the left side of my foot.

Brief Answer:
The cause of cellulitis needs to be identified.I would take it seriously.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for asking on HealthcareMagic.
The cause of cellulitis needs evaluation. It often occurs due to infection with bacteria like Streptococcus. If that is the case, it would need to be treated with antibiotics. Cold compress should help in reducing the reness and associated inflammation. Your blood uric acid levels also need to be checked as gout may also manifest with cellulitis like features. In any case you should see a doctor and get yourself clinically evaluated.
Hope that helps.

I have seen a doctor. It has been assessed as the result of a strep infection; Antibiotics have been prescribed when there is a flare-up and severe pain; they do help and reduce the pain and swelling.

The only thing not yet done is for my blood uric acid levels to be checked and I will have that done looking for gout.

You did NOT address the persistant "redness" on both my feet. I wear the same shoe every day which is a "crock." Is it possible that I may be allergic to the plastic that the crock is made out of??? If so - how can I check that - and would you please address other causes of the redness across the middle of both feet. Many thanks.

Brief Answer:
The underlying cause needs proper treatment.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for writing back. Since Streptococcus has already been identified to the causative agent, it is less likely that you have an additional problem with uric acid. But still it might be better to get the test done.
I am sorry for unintentionally not have answered the issue of persistent redness since I assumed that treating the underlying cause would automatically take care of the redness. In any case, let me mention that cold compress should be helpful in this regard.
Allergic reaction to the material your footwear is made of, is a possibility.
It would be helpful if you could attach an image of the affected area using the facility on the upper right of this page.
Hope that helps.
