                                    Hello,
Donot worry the history of breast cancer has nothing to do now. It is due to inflammatiln. Kindly follow the medication given earlier. Hot fomentation will also help.
Since you have history of breast cancer in family, do check your breasts once in a while for any lumps.
Kindly hit thanks

Does it make sense if the skin is peeling around the affected area since the swelling and redness has gone?

There is nothing but a healing very mild wound on the skin.
Detailed Answer:
Dr. Hanif warmly Welcomes you to my virtual clinic HCM!
I have carefully worked through your case, and can realize your health worries. Being your physician, I will take care all of your medical concerns.
Miss Cronin please don't worry at all. This is only due to a physical injury by hitting the baby. It is very common injury starting right from the start of the breastfeeding. Moms come with this problem very often to the outpatient clinics. This injury is often self-limiting.
I usually give only symptomatic treatment for this issue. You need to apply Triple antibiotic ointment on the peeling skin to avoid infection by bacteria. If you have pain, or redness is still there a bit, take Ibuprofen twice daily.
It is a matter of a couple of days and you will be all OK.
Have a wonderful time ahead. Hope I answered all of your questions. Let me know if you have any further clinical concerns or doubts. I will be more than happy to get back to you in no time. If satisfied here, please give a generous five star rating and don't forget to close the discussion.
For any disease you have, a timely follow-up after sometime regarding the treatment efficacy and to see any need to change the treatment options is very necessary. Keep a follow up some days after this visit session ends.
Regards!
