Question: I started having very minor panic attacks two years ago. Currently I am learning progressive muscular relaxation to lower my anxiety and ease my chest muscles from tighten.

The panic attacks have got worse in two years..

Can you tell me WHY have I become HIGHLY SENSITIVE TO THE FEELING every time I now stretch or move my neck to my right...which continues to make my chest muscles contract?

Brief Answer:
stretching of nerves

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for choosing health care magic for posting your query.
I have gone through your question in detail and I can understand what you are going through.
Progressive muscle relaxation is a very useful technique for minor panic attacks. Now the neck has various structures inside it like Blood Vessels, Nerves, Muscles etc. Mostl likely when you are twisting your neck to right, some nerves may be stretching up leading to increased feeling and increased contraction of chest muscle. But thats fine and with time things should settle down. It should not lead to any damage. YOu should continue doing the stretching exercises and gradually the panic and increased chest muscle contraction should settle down.
Hope I am able to answer your concerns.
If you have any further query, I would be glad to help you.

Thankyou for your detailed answer....

My panic attacks are NO LONGER minor, I get them from the moment I wake up, until the moment I go to sleep at night.....and my neck issue is beyond a joke!!! It is beyond INCREASED FEELING...I just move my neck SLIGHTLY and my chest muscles contract!!!!

My chest muscles are contracted ALL day long!

You think there is anymore to be concerned about??

Or just continue with Progressive Muscular Relaxation?

Many Thanks

Brief Answer:
Medicines should be a better option

Detailed Answer:
Hello
If your panic episodes are this severe then it would be wise to treat such episodes with medicine instead of relaxation therapy alone.
Medicines are the best options to take care of these symptoms. Paroxetine is the the most popular medicine and my drug of choice. I generally prescribe my patients 12.5 mg per day at night which takes care of anxiety symptoms. Also certain medicines like propranolol and clonazepam can be give as required when there is a panic episode or expected situation where panic attack can appear.
You may still continue relaxation therapy along with medicines.
Kind regards

Brief Answer:
Opt for medical management

Detailed Answer:
Hello
It seems relaxation therapy is not suiting you as the chest muscles are getting contracted. I would suggest you go for medical management and ones the anxiety of the body reduces, the chest muscle contraction may not occur.
Kind regards
