Brief Answer:
Your symptoms are caused by pure anxiety.

Detailed Answer:

Hello!

Welcome back on HCM!

Regarding your concern, I would explain that your symptoms don't seem to be related to any cardiac disorders.

Your performed cardiac tests are really assuring that you have a perfect cardiac function and structure.

So relax and do not worry about it!

Coming to this point, the most probable cause of your symptoms is just pure anxiety.

You should know that a pulsating sensation in many parts of the body is not an indicator of any disorder.

It may be also related to your slim constitution.

What about your thyroid function? Did you check your thyroid hormone levels, as I have already mentioned you before?

If your thyroid function tests result normal, I would recommend consulting with a specialist in the field of anxiety.

Psychotherapy, meditation and probably some anxiolytics may help you to relieve these symptoms.

Hope to have been helpful!

Feel free to ask any other questions, whenever you need!

Greetings!

Thats great to hear! Its tough at times :)

By you saying my cardio system is sound, can i be certain i have nothing to worry about then from the tests i have had?

I take cilotropram 40mg now and again ate these safe? My doc seems to think so but they really slow my pulse a lot.

Should i just put all these worries to one side as the tests cannot be wrong and i can lead my life until at least 50 until maybe then checking again?

Hello again!

Citalopram is a good choice for treatment of anxiety and panic disorders.

This is a maximal daily dose and I would not recommend any increase in the dosage, because of possible adverse effects and no further increase in its benefits.

How long have you been taking this drug? Are your symptoms getting better while on citalopram?

From the other hand, I agree with your doctor that it doesn't slow your heart rate. In some patients it has shown to increase the heart rate leading to possible tachycardia, but not bradycardia.

Your slow heart rate may be just physiological and there is no reason to be concerned about it, as long as your cardiac tests result normal.

So try to not think about it any more! You should try to pay less attention to your heart rate during the day. It will help you feel better.

Anyway, if your panic attacks and anxiety do not decrease in frequency and severity within 2 months, I recommend you to discuss with your doctor the possibility of switching to another antidepressant (like escitalopram, venlafaxine, etc.).

Hope to have been of help!

I am at your disposal for further questions, whenever you need!

Best wishes!

I only take it when needed like today as i could feel my heart pounding after football. Is this okay? I only get a slow heart rate which happens due to the adrenal gland being suppressed? Yes?

I guess i just need to know with all the checks i can be 100% im fine and can live a great life? I just need to know the negative tests means i can push my body to the max!

Whilst playing football & having periods of anxiety, is this dangerous in anyway to me or my heart? As i am putting my heart under pressure :)

Your advice & feedback is greatly welcomed!

Detailed Answer:
Hello again!

Thank you for the information provided.

Regarding citalopram intake I would not recommend using it as only during anxiety episodes. You should know that this is not an anxiolytic but an antidepressant. It may take up to a month of regular intake to show its effects and is used as preventive therapy for panic attack. It is usually taken for more than three months. It has no effect on acute panic attacks. Besides it may lead to adverse effects, if you take now and then 40mg after a long pause, because it is usually started slow, increasing slowly the dose within the first month to avoid possible adverse effects.

In such cases alprazolam would be recommended.

You should discuss with your attending physician on the above issues.

Regarding your heart function, based on your performed cardiac tests, you seem to be a healthy man with a normal cardiac function.

The low heart rate is physiological in trained and sport players.

So there is nothing to worry about it.

You can exercise as you need!

Anyway you should know that a straining physical activity can lead to tachycardia and even ectopic heart beat, which can trigger the pulse feeling through your body and also panic attacks.

You should be aware of this, but nothing wrong is going to happen.

Hope to have been helpful!

Best wishes!

Hi Dr Iliri, my sincere apologies it is propanarol not citalopram hence the slow heart rate & I guess wil make sense now, sorry :)

Thats great i just have a massive fear of the heat, cardiophobia and your advice/expertise gives me a chance to just get on with my life family, football etc. The panic can be debilitating at times but i am winning!

Is propanarol a good drug for the odd use when i have a strong pulse and when feeling anxiety, can i train on it?

Again thank you! Have a great day!

Hello!

Thank you again for the additional information.

This is a beta blocker and can reduce your heart rate and also anxiety.

But you should also know that it can reduce your physical performance.

So I recommend using it with caution after consulting with your attending physician.

You can also consider taking alprazolam in small doses for example 0.25 to 0.5 mg. This is a pure anxiolytic drug which helps relieve anxiety symptoms, without sedating effects.

Regarding your fear from overheating I recommend you to exercise only in optimal weather conditions, and avoid hot and high humidity places, which can lead to an increase of your body temperature while exercising.

Hope to have been helpful!

Please feel free to ask me directly at anytime for any other uncertainties!

Greetings!

Is it safe to take propanarol when needed? Just now and again?

I getting string pulse in te legs again today, if i feel my pulse in my neck & ankle at the sane time they are nearly in sync but the leg pulse is noticeable & can feel it whilst lying down? Is this something caused by anxiety/high bp or do i need this investigated as its been happening the last few days but my anxiety has been on and off also?

The pulse in both my legs seems to be around the ankle and behind the knees....cause for concern?

Really appreciate this Dr lliri :)

Anything you can tell me for complete reassurance on here!

Brief Answer:
It;s just anxiety, so nothing dangerous.

Detailed Answer:

Hi!

As all the cardiac tests have resulted normal and your complains are nonspecific, the most likely reason seems to be anxiety.

When these unpleasant feeling appears, besides from taking Alprazolam, it is important to possess some auto-control maneuvers, like breathing control or self meditation to better overcome those anxiety exacerbation.

You should remember that nothing dangerous or life-threatening could result from those unpleasant feelings.

So relax and don't worry too much!
