Question : I had 7 weeks of radiation on my throat 5 days a week. Now, 10 weeks later, I have a bad cough. Am
taking codeine cough medicine once or twice a day. Not getting better. Any advice?have you heard of Azithromycin or Pred/Nystat/Diphen susp (swich & swallow)?

Brief Answer:
These are common issues post radiation.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thank you for your query.

1. Radiation lowers immunity. It also damages the delicate throat tissues causing inflammation.

2. Hence you need to take antibiotics, anti-fungals, anti-inflammatory medication (including steroids), mucolytics, anti-reflux medications, medicated gargles, cough suppressants, sialogogues as you have mentioned above.

3. Get a Videolaryngoscopy (VL'Scopy) done. Sputum culture for three consecutive days, a Chest X-ray and auscultation should be done.

I hope I have answered your query. If you have any further questions I will be available to answer them.

Regards.
