Question: I have been having frequent cramping in my hands and lately really bad cramps in leg which are really painful. My tendons this past summer became extremely inflamed and required injections and medication. My blood pressure has recently began to elevate.I take a medication for my b/p (cartia XL 120 mg. and I am also taking synthroid 200mcg . I had a hyperthyroid gland for which I had to take the radioactive iodine. These are currently the only medications I take. Any idea what could be the problem.

Brief Answer:
Please, get your blood calcium levels controlled!

Detailed Answer:
HI and thank you so much for this query.

I am so sorry to hear about these cramps. I have reviewed your information fully and concerned that you may be having ;low blood calcium. This is more likely as the radiotherapy for the thyroid gland could also damage the parathyroid glands which regulate calcium absorption and metabolism. Cramps are typical of hypothyroidism and you need to have the blood calcium, magnesium and proteins evaluated. This will probably show where the root cause s and guide treatment. Keep me posted on the outcome of these laboratory investigations.

I hope this helps. I wish you well. Feel free to ask for more information and clarifications if need be. Above all, thanks for using our services.
