Brief Answer:
Telogen effluvium; topical minoxidil; oral iron and biotin supplement

Detailed Answer:
Hello. Thank you for writing to us

I have taken note of your query and I have understood your concern

Sudden increase in hair shedding Or telogen effluvium is usually preceded by a stressful event or inciting event. This stressful event can predate increased shedding i.e telogen effluvium by 1-3 months. Telogen can follow medical illnesses like jaundice, malaria, dengue etc Or after a surgery. In females telogen or increased hair shedding is also common after delivery and it usually starts 1-3 months post partum. Significant weight loss, either due to dieting or medical illness, is also a common cause of telogen.
Telogen effluvium that follows a preceding inciting event is usually reversible within 3-6 months once the inciting event is corrected or has elapsed. In females reduced iron stores, thyroid abnomalities and androgenetic alopecia can also lead to increased hair shedding.

I suggest you to take a few basic blood tests e.g testing for thyroid abnomality, serum ferritin and complete hemogram, vitamin D levels and Vitamin B 12 levels. Thyroid, ferritin levels or deficiencies if any should be corrected.

I would suggest you to use a topical minoxidil 2% solution, 1 ml, twice daily at scalp skin. Minoxidil is a non specific hair growth promoter and cut shorts telogen effluvium. You may use it for 4-6 months.

Oral Iron supplement e.g Tab Autrin, once daily on empty stomach along with Vitamin C tablet and also Oral Biotin supplement e.g Tab. Revilus Or Tab. H-vit forte once daily for 4-6 months is also part of treatment in most cases of increased hair shedding.

These are prescription medications and should be taken under supervision of a doctor and after thorough history and lab tests aimed at identifying a cause for increased hair shedding.

Thank you doctor. I follow a good healthy routine. I am anaemic and my ferritin tests also indictate my iron levels below normal range. I am taking LivogenZ one tablet daily at night after food as recommended by my physician.
My thyroid levels are normal and i am not dieting. I do yoga and stay away from junk food.
I had travelled to europe in the last two weeks but the problem has persisted for the last one month. Do you suggest i change my iron supplement?

Brief Answer:
Add a biotin supplement and topical minoxidil solution

Detailed Answer:
Hi.

You can continue with your iron supplement. Take it on empty stomach along with vitamin C tablet to enhance absorption of iron.
In addition to that I also suggest you to add a biotin supplement as discussed in my previous reply.
I also suggest you to use minoxidil 2% solution twice daily at scalp skin.
