Question: Horrible hip pain, not relieved with steriods. Mri says a 1.5cm cyst on femoral head. What will they do? Radiologist seemed to gocus just on SI joint due to inflammation in the past. To my eye it looks like more going on.. Lol

Brief Answer:
Osteoarthritic changes likely.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for posting your query.
The images that you have sent are insufficient to interpret but there are osteoarthritic changes present in the hip joint that might be causing the hip pain. Kindly attach the radiologist's report so that proper findings can help in proper diagnosis.
For the pain due to osteoarthritis you need to take pain killers along with calcium supplements. You can get the proper pain killers prescribed from your physician according to the severity of the pain.
I hope this answers your query.
In case you have additional questions or doubts, you can forward them to me, and I shall be glad to help you out.

Brief Answer:
Can be a nerve related issue.

Detailed Answer:
The images are haphazard and are difficult to arrange in a sequence. It is best to send the radiologists notes for a better understanding. There is a small cyst in acetabulum but it is not likely to cause the severe pain like you have described. It can be a nerve related issue also.
Regards.

Thank you so much. The radiologist report said EVERYTHING NORMAL except cyst. However, it says he concetrated on SI joint because I have Psoriatic Arthritis and I have had inflammation there before. This pain is sidferent and way worse. It even hurts in my upper thigh/ groin area. It hurts to do anything but lie flat. Even pressing the gas pedal hurts. Could the cyst be pressing on a nerve? Im so confused because it hurts in the back of the hip, inner hip and front. And believe me I know pain. I am a below the knee amputee after 12 ankle surgeries and a failed ankle replacement, from a crushed talus bone from a MVA. I also have horrible phantom pain. Anyway, I tell you this because pain is not new to me. I attached videos I took of the MRI images as a last ditch effort to see if they help u at all. If not, I will not keep pestering you! Thanks so much

Brief Answer:
Nerve related cause likely.

Detailed Answer:
I have seen the videos uploaded. The small cyst in the hip joint is not causing any nerve compression. The severe pain in the hip and groin can be due to a nerve compression at the level of lower lumbar spine. The hip joint as such looks near normal. Mild arthritic changes are there but that should not cause such a severe pain.
The pain is likely to be due to nerve compression and not any structural hip deformity. Such pains are usually relieved by taking medicines like pregabalin and gabapentin.

I just have one more question. Why is it that to the lay persons eye, the right and left hip look so different? Thanks!

Answered by Dr. Dr. Praveen Tayal (1 hour later)
Brief Answer:
Both are normal. It is a normal variation.

Detailed Answer:
The difference ion two hips is due to their position. Both the hips are positioned at slightly different levels at the time of scan. Otherwise these are normal looking.
