Question : To Whom it may concern: I am told that I fractured behind the knee on the femur and behind knee cartilage on my left leg. This is terribly painful. They said there is nothing I can do but keep weight off and take pain killer (which I hate). Do you know if there is any other solutions, how long this will go on and if I should wear a brace. Thank you for trying to help.

Kindly send Xray or MRI plates and reports

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thank you for posting your query in Healthcaremagic.com.
This is Dr. Swarnava Dattagupta answering your query.

I understand your concern.
First of all, you have not mentioned your age or whether you have any comorbidities like hypertension, diabetes etc. In treatment of patients with fracture, these small information are of immense help. Also, I would like to know when and how did the injury occur. Whether you have any previous history of trauma in the same area is another query I would like you to answer. I would also like to know whether you have any external injury like cuts, lacerations or bruises.
In orthopedic cases, specially with established fractures, clinical examination of the patient is very important.
However, as it is not possible here, I would like to have a look at the Xrays/MRI you have undergone. From those, I would be able to understand the problem better.
You have gone to a doctor for this problem and he/she has suggested you to avoid weight bearing and take painkillers. For now, you need to continue those.
Get back to me with the reports and answers.

Hope I have answered your question.
If you have any further questions I will be happy to help.
Regards.
