Suggest Remedy For Severe Subcostal Cramps

default
Posted on Sat, 17 Jan 2015
Question: I am male, 63 years old. Since about 4 weeks I get severe subcostal cramps. An ultra sound showed nothing unusual. The cramps are so bad I start shaking and they last 5-10 minutes. Charcoal capsules seem to bring some relief. What causes this?

Brief Answer:
Symptoms possibly due to flatulence dyspepsia

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Welcome to Healthcaremagic
Greetings of the day
Dear Sir

As Ultrasound has failed to show any significant pathology. The cause of your symptoms is likely to be due to flatulence (excessive gas ) dyspepsia. Charcoal usually acts by absorbing gases and helps relieve pain.

Following could be the predisposing factors

1. Decreased intake of water
2. Decreased intake of fiber in diet

I would suggest you the following

1. Ensure good intake of water : 2 to 3 liter a day

2. High fiber diet : 2 servings of vegetable salad and 2 servings of fruits especially citrus fruit will ensure adequate intake of fiber

3. Laxatives like Lactulose will be helpful.

Do get back to me if you need any further assistance, will be glad to assist you.

Wishing you and your family a very Happy New year 2015 .

Take care
