Suggest Remedy For Shooting Pain In Buttock And Leg Post Steroid Shot

default
Posted on Tue, 8 Dec 2015
Question: Two weeks ago My husband received a steroid shot in his buttock due to ongoing sinus infection ( third time to the doctor for this infection) The injection site was painful and has since progressed to shooting pains from his buttock and down his leg (think sciatic) Today we noticed that from his knee to his mid thigh is swollen and feels like jelly and he is having excruciating pain. He doesn't want to go back to doctor but I seriously think he should? No fever, no redness at injection site, leg is not hot or hard to touch.

Brief Answer:
Injection neuropathy

Detailed Answer:
Hello and Welcome

I appreciate your concern

Based on your description and history, which you narrated, it is most likely injection neuropathy. Corticosteroids, gabapentin and NSAIDs should be prescribed for at least two weeks. The duration of treatment can be extended as well based on the response. Vitamin b 12 supplementation should also be done. Yes , should go to a doctor to evaluate the pain, examine him and advise the above medications accordingly.

Wishing you best of health

Thanks
