Question: Hi,

I have a son of 6 months old. he started having cerelac at breakfast, lunch and dinner, along with milk in between. From past 10 days, he is not having sound sleep in night, as earlier he used to. He gets up once in 2/3 hours. As of now, I am feeding him during night time. Can you please let me know, is the mother's milk is not sufficient for him? do I need to stop feeding and give Lactogen during night

Brief Answer:
The child may take some time to get accustomed to new food items.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for asking on HealthcareMagic.

Exclusive breast feeding is advised till 6 months of age. 6 months onwards, the breast milk is supposed to be continued along with supplementary feeds with semi solids since mother's milk is no longer adequate. I would prefer introducing rice and pulses boiled together with vegetables and mashed up together. Cerelac is a ready made formula that can be given. But Cerelac Rice might be more preferrable since it is easier to digest. The child might be yet unaccustomed to the new food items and hence might be a bit uncomfortable but I do not think that you need to be worried. Do not worry. The child will get the amount of sleep it requires. You can give Lactogen at night if you have been giving it earlier but if you are thinking of replacing breast feed with Lactogen, it is certainly not required.

Be patient. Introduce one new item per week. You may give fruits like bananas in mashed form. No need to boil fruits.

Hope that helps.
