Suggest Remedy For Sudden Dizziness And Vertigo

Question: This a.m. I did a full body stretch in bed & whilst doing so, turned over to the right. Something felt "off" like I stretched too far, so I stopped. I then started to get up & had the shock of finding the whole room spin & spin - it was so terrifying. After lying down for a few mins I tried to sit up, & again the room spun. So I took 2.5 of my alprazolam to relax (calm the panic really) & aftter a few mins. I tried to sit up again. This time it worked. I went back to lying down whilst I considered what to do next & w/out thingking, I turned over to the right again & bam, the room spun out of control. I am wondering if it is a pinched nerve? I am now up & was able to walk over to my computer, but was v careful not to look to the right. Btw, the only similar thing to happen to me, was about 10 yrs ago when I had spent a full day raking leaves - I woke up & when I tried to raise my head, there was severe dizziness. That time my husband drove me to ER & they prescribed muscle relaxants. I *do* have cervical erosion from a neck injury resulting from lifting a patient back when I was a nurse in the mid-70s. I am female, 62 yrs old. Thank-you for your help.

Brief Answer:
Yes cervical cord compression can be a cause. Let me help you out.

Detailed Answer:
Welcome to Healthcare Magic . Thank you for posting your question. I can understand your concern.

This sudden dizziness and vertigo is common . The probable causes are
1. Benign paroxysmal positional vertigo
2. Fluctuations of blood pressure
3. Cervical cord compression
- to name a few

Do not worry much . I would suggest you to go for regular blood pressure checkups.
Take tablet Prochlorperazine maleate to reduce your vertigo .
You can take Tablet Alprazolam once daily at night before going to sleep.
This will reduce your anxiety.
If you have pain in your shoulder radiating towards your hand , apply dry heat compress and diclofenac gel .

I would suggest you to visit a doctor. He/she can examine you and correlate clinically.

Write back to us.
Have a nice day.
Regards.
