I just experienced a strange occurrence. I am an extremely healthy 54 year old female that takes excellent care of myself. I just experienced a feeling of almost being drugged or drunk....like I could not focus my eyes. My speech was not slurred, but slow and I needed to concentrate to form words. I felt dizzy and woozy. Almost like I was drunk, which I never allow myself to get. I juiced this morning and drank a full glass of beet, carrot, apple, celery, XXXXXXX and ginger juice. I had a bit more when I began to feel the symptoms. It lasted about a half hour. It seems to be passing now, but I feel a bit tired and lethargic. Again...not normal for me but I have not been sleeping well due to hot flashes. I practice yoga and meditation daily....have taught for over 10 years and lead a healthy lifestyle. Any suggestions? My sister wants to bring me to the ER, but I am not sure this is necessary.
CVA should be ruled out , FIRST
Detailed Answer:
Hello and Welcome
I appreciate your concern
An E.R visit would be the right way, as suggested by your sister. A neurological exam should be performed to look for any focal deficit. If present, imaging studies like CT/MRI may be advised to look for evidence of stroke. Blood pressure readings would also be required. Both hypotension and hypertension can present as dizziness. The speech and visual difficulties suggest a CVA and should be promptly worked up to avoid any permanent damage to the brain tissue if there is a vascular cause. Blood counts and metabolic profile including blood sugar and electrolytes may be done if there is clinical evidence or suspicion.
Please consult your doctor before taking any course of action
wishing you best of health
