Question : My son had major colon surgery (for the 2nd time) last week. He cannot pass a stool or eat anything. his doctor is away and he is in pain dvomiting and going into depression. I need to please know what can I do to help stimulate his bowel to work. He is in hospital currently, with little progress and little courage. he is 29. Please, please how can I help him.?

First you should rule out bowel obstruction by ct scan it colonoscopy since if there is mechanic obstruction then no medicine can help him. But if there is no obstruction then it could be paralytic ileus, or opstipation and in this case some medicines such as prostigmine, laxatives may help. Also he should stop taking medicines that causes opstipation. For pain he should be taking spsmolytics. Wish so good health. Feel free to ask. Regards
