Local application of podowart is a right treatment and generally applied to warts which are small. It may take several weeks to several months for them to get cured completely.
Your photograph suggest that these warts are little more in size and hence you can try either cryotherapy or electro cautery. 
Bigger ones are treated by surgical removal.
You may consult your doctor and discuss with him about cryotherapy or electro cautery because it would take much less time to get cured.

Yes it is a sexually transmitted disease although can be passed from one person to other by skin to skin contact like shared bath towels or sharing sex toys also.
People who are smokers,alcoholics or with weak immune system are more at risk with such warts.
Genital warts are generally caused by human papilloma virus.

I know you must be really fearing very jittery and scared and probably must be cursing your earlier sexual partner also but the fact is that it is quite possible that your sex partner also may not be knowing about it. In 20-40% of cases people are just carriers of virus without having any outward symptom.
You must learn few things about it.
It is a perfectly harmless thing and is very common.
Many people have this. 
No harm to your life.
In spite of treatment this virus would almost always reside inside you.
Who gets back and who doesn't,after the treatment,no body knows.
But it is said that if you don't get back these warts in another 3 months after the treatment,then it is almost cleared from you.
There are HPV vaccines available which can be given to your wife.
Use of condom effectively stops the transmission but not 100% but still you must use condom for initial few months after the marriage till vaccination in her is complete.
Avoid having sex outside now.
Quit smoking,if you are doing it. It is very important.
You must consult a rectal surgeon who can see the inside of your anal canal to look for any warts there,because chances are there that they are present there also. If found inside anal canal,then they have to be treated surgically.
