Brief Answer:
A short-term appetite suppressant may help get you started

Detailed Answer:
Dear XXXXXXX
I have looked over your concerns and feel I can give you some guidance. You are correct that Neurontin can increase your appetite and thus, weight gain. You may speak to your doctor about any of the prescription appetite suppressants such as qysmia, Belviq, Saxenda or others. Your doctor can discuss this with you in conjunction with your medical history.

As you know, an appetite suppressant is only a short-term intervention. Use the time well by cutting your portions in half, eating more vegetables, fresh fruits. ..Increase water soluble fibers (oats, skins of fresh fruit, etc) as these will help stabilize any fluctuating blood sugars that also may make you hungry.

Set realistic and achievable goals for yourself and stick with it. Most of my clients do well when they incorporate some sort of exercise program - 250 minutes a week and put your heart into it! Picture your goal as you work out. Walking, swimming, biking, video exercises - I am not certain what interests you and what you are able to do, so sit down and make out your own exercise plan.

Keep in mind that it takes 500 calories less per day to lose a pound per week. It seems difficult, but if you combine spending energy through exercise and decreasing it by eating healthier with smaller portions, it is entirely possible to lose that 40 pounds.

Also, drink a full glass of water before you eat and try to drink 8-10 cups per day.

Green tea will stimulate thermogenesis, or metabolic rate. Success rates with weight loss with escalate as you raise your metabolism through exercise and products like green tea that stimulate your metabolism a bit thus enabling you to burn calories more efficiently.

So, in summary, you asked about weight loss suppressants. I feel they may help short-term if your doctor reviews your chart and agrees, the doctor who may be writing your prescription will be able to match the appetite suppressant with your medical history. The most popular appetite suppressants out right now Qsymia, Belviq and Saxenda.

Have I addressed your question? Please feel free to write back for clarification if need be. I will be here to answer your questions.

If you decide to write back, please include height, weight, age and any supplements you may be taking. One more thing, I suggest that you avoid over the counter weight loss pills - most are dangerous and many have caused liver and kidney problems.

If you are satisfied, please rate and close the question. Otherwise, feel free to contact me for further information. To your health, XXXXXXX Shattler, MS,RDN
