Question: Hi, I recently took a medical test arranged by my organisation. The reports came in pretty okay but I am concerned for my kidneys. My mother passed away from kidney failure and I know exacly what she had gone through. Please find my report attached and suggest me if I need to be cautious or if my kidneys are working fine.
Please also suggest me tips to help my kidneys. I smoke a bit and do not drink.

Brief Answer:
no problem

Detailed Answer:
People with family history of kidney disease are at high risk of developing kidney disease. You have to be careful and try avoid all those conditions where kidney can get involved badly. You need to maintain your weight at an ideal number. Quit smoking immediately. Go for regular physical activity. Get a complete health check up every year and monitor all important parameters of health. all the reports submitted by you are all normal. You don't have to worry at this time but you are very young and to have a very long life, you need to monitor frequently and carefully.

Thank you very much.

I have hands on experience of handling a kidney patient so I know that it is extremely important to safeguard it from chemicals and avoid certain foods.
I have a few complications on which I need your advice.

I suffer from IBS- which requires me to be on anti-depressant Sertraline 50mg- thats the only medicine that helps with the loose motions. Due to IBS I also suffer from vitamin deficiency as all the nutrients does not get absorbed completely. I will have to take Niacinamide 50mg/day + Folic Acid 2 -4 g daily to counter deficiency otherwise I end up having cancker sores and balance/walking problems.- I wanted to ask if Sertraline or any multivitamins are safe for kidneys and if it is okay to take them within limits?

If you could advise me on the medications or chemicals that I need to avoid please- that would be great.

I have also heard that Alpha Liopic aicd helps the kidneys- Is it okay to take that anti-oxidant - 100mg/dayfor 1-2 months?

I know I sound obsessed but a kidney disease is horrible and I am very much scared and determined to live a healthy life.

Brief Answer:
Avoid antioxidants

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thanks for writing back.

Sertalin has no effect in the kidneys . ALA has no major either beneficial or harmful effect on kidney. antioxidants do not help much other than being " a feel good factor". It might aggravate your IBS and hence I advice you to avoid that.

Regards,
