Question : I have been on alprazalam & temazepam for year now for sleep. I was able to get off alprazalam but am taking 30 mg of temazepam & can't get a good sleep - light sleep, weird dreams, wakefulness . Last night at 4 am I took 2 benedryls. That helped. How do I get off sleeping pills??? I've tried melatonin & herbs in the past & they did not help. People have to sure but not sure how to get a normal sleep. What can I do ?? I'm 56 yrs old female

The best way to get off these current sleeping pills is to undergo a careful taper monitored by a psychiatrist, and withdrawing or stopping to quickly can lead to seizures.
To replace them, consider the following medications: Trazodone, Remeron, Ambien, Seroquel. These are nonaddictive sleep aids.
