Question : I was in a tramic car accident which caused broken bones in my lower extremities. My foot Dr stated that he had never seen injuries like I substance do in his career . Actually said this was the kind of damage that would be expected in airplane crash, my legs and feet are full of rods and screws. My primary Dr says I have to choice between pain meds and anxiety meds.I also have restless leg syndrome. Xanax is the only thing I can take and get to sleep I’ve been up now for 3 Days . What are my options
that I can take and sleep and I have tried everything possible. Feeling really hopeless. I also have been diagnosed with PTSD. I feel like my Dr has thrown me under the bus. He is having a nurse practitioner handle the cases. I have never abused my meds, never ask for early refills actually my dates for refills went from the 1st to the 23 of the month. I understand Drs are under a lot of pressure from the Goverment, but what about people who really need help

                                    Brief Answer:
Pregabalin or Gabapentin as an additional option
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
I have doubts regarding the statement that only one medication, either pain medications (most likely NSAIDS) or sleep medication can be used. If the metabolic profile including liver and renal function tests are normal then both can be used for adequate pain control. I would recommend adding Pregabalin or Gabapentin to the NSAIDS/pain meds. It can serve as a sleep aid as well as reducing the pain. You may apprise your doctor regarding this option.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if you have any query.
Wishing you the best of health.
Thank you.

I’m on Gabapentin .i can’t tell it does anything. I’ve tried melatonin every sleeping aid I can find even order one Noctrine or something like that. I’m scared . I retired Civil Service which I had to retire from because of the accident. Was miserable but had some many surgeries while spending 6 weeks on life support and in a induced coma. After coming home I kept going back for years having additional surgeries. Thou I was awake,I do not remember the accident. At night I cannot turn my head off so it’s not just about pain and not sleeping I have Panic attacks that actually originate in my gut . Well they took me off the Xanax. I was able to keep down a part time job in retail so I could stay XXXXXXX as possible, can’t work but 4 Hrs pays a joke but it help me in so many ways. I’ve never drank, illegal drugs or smoked just don’t see it being a matter of addiction . Days I don’t work I might not take but one if I not leaving the house
I’ve also had to have two surgeries in the last year to clip nerves .
Have tried all over the counter meds. My foot is full of hardware so after a while they will even rise to the roof of my foot were they are noticeable to the eye my foot has a deformed shape now. Kinda looks like a golf club

Explained
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
You most likely had local nerve block procedures done. I can advise additional options including Tramadol and Serratiopeptidase. They can be tried. If none of the conventional treatments help then you can discuss medical Marijuana as a possible alternative treatment. The availability and laws of your state would govern the decision regarding using it in consultation with your doctor.
Wishing you the best of health.
Thank you.
