Posted on Tue, 3 Mar 2015
Question: I have sore breast, I am fatigue, my lower back hurts, I have white discharge, abdominal pain, head aches, frequent urination and have had five positive pregnancy tests all different boxes none were the same test. First positive was faint on Thursday, Friday took another and it was a little darker came out quicker, Saturday was even darker and came out a little later than the ones on Friday, Sunday came out a lot darker and the fastest. Today Monday I took another one and it is negative so I am really confused as to why, I took another one later on and it also came out negative. So I have two negatives and five positives. I need answers.

Brief Answer:
Serum/blood beta hCG level testing will be better.

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Welcome to HCM.
I can understand your concerns.
You are confused with the results of your urine pregnancy tests.

I would suggest you to go for serum/blood beta hCG levels. This is more sensittive than urine pregnancy test.

An hCG level of less than 5mIU/ml is considered negative for pregnancy, and anything above 25mIU/ml is considered positive for pregnancy.

There are two common types of hCG tests:
Qualitative hCG test to detect presence/absence of hCG in blood.
Quantitative hCG test to measure the amount of hCG present in the blood.

This will clear your confusion.

Hope this helps.
Feel free to ask further.
Thanks.

Thank you so much, So what would cause the positives and then all a sudden get negatives. I think that's where I am even more confused. How can that happen?

Brief Answer:
may be a early miscarriage.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for the follow-up.

I would like to know a few things before a concrete conclusion.

When did you get your last periods? Did you have any spotting in recent days?

I think the positive pregnancy tests earlier followed by a negative ones, suggest that you did conceive but there was an early miscarriage. Most probably the implantation was not proper.

So, I would advise serum beta hCG levels for you, which is more sensitive.
Go for two consecutive blood tests separated by 48-hours interval. Doubling of hCG levels would suggest a intra-uterine pregnancy.

Also, a transvaginal ultrasound would help to rule out ectopic/tubal pregnancy.

Hope this helps you.

Thanks.
