Suggest The Ideal Dosage For Ibuprofen Taken For Back Pain

Question: For Dr. Praveen-Tayal, I just received your answer for my back strain and I'd like to now ask if I should continue to take ibuprofen every four to five hours and if so what is the prescribed dosage.....600ml each time as I have been or up it to 800ml? And then am I to assume that eventually the inflammation will dissipate and then go away and therefore, the healing? Thanks, XXXXXXX XXXX

Thanks for posting your query.
The normal dosage of ibuprofen is 600 mg every 6 hours preferably after meals to avoid any gastric irritation. It will help in decreasing the pain and inflammation. You can take it for 3-4 weeks till the pain subsides completely.
Gradually with rest the strained muscle fibers will heal and then you will not feel any pain on routine movements. The hot compress will; also help in relieving the muscle spasm if any.
