Brief Answer:
might increase in size

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thanks for writing to health care magic.
Cafe au lait spots can increase in size and become more prominent after 2 years.
But if there is no family history there is little to worry.
There is still a possibility for your child to have neurofibromatosis but it's a small possibility.
Your doc has rightly scheduled MRI after 6 months.

Wishing your child has great health

Brief Answer:
dont worry

Detailed Answer:
Neurofibromatosis is not malignant, so don't worry.
Size increase is unpredictable , XXXXXXX till 2 years.
Spots can be removed if needed by plastic surgery later in life.
MRI is good enough to diagnose
