Question: I have been suffering with a rare virgina yeast infection (candida glabrata), my GP has prescribed boric acid for me, but I am still suffering with the same infection after 4 courses of treatment. I am trying to get pregnant, what else can I do to treat this infection? What else do I need to change in my lifestyle to prevent future infection?

Hi Dr. XXXXXXX

Thanks for your prompt response.
I have been trying to research online about candida glabrata but found not much of information available online. I have seen 2 GPs and both have prescribed boric acid capsules for me. I have not taking any oral pills for this infection, except for boric acid capsules inserted in the vagina at bedtime. I have not taken about azoles antifungal and I am not diabetic. Occasionally I do have itching sensation and foul smell in the discharge. Thanks!

Best Regards,
XXXX

Brief Answer:
High vaginal swab culture advised.

Detailed Answer:
Hello dear,
You are most welcome.
You are right usually yeast infection are resistant to treatment and boric acid are useful in its treatment but you can go for high vaginal swab culture and KOH mounting to see the other infection also.
Azoles are usually effective in treatment of infection but you have to consult a Gynecologist for the same.
For prevention you can maintain vaginal hygiene, drink a lot of water, avoid carbohydrates, avoid touching, wear loose fitting cotton undergarments, take probiotics.
You can use candid cream for local application.
Hope found useful.
Good luck.
Regards
