Question: My husband is 65, history of high BP, obesity, high costrestol, uses CEPAP machine to name a few problems. 1.5 yr ago developed first DVT, had procedure, followed by coumidin. Second DVT occurred about 2 weeks ago followed by new blood thinner, no procedure done. He continues to SIT for HOURS on computer. I told him to walk every day, but does not. I assume he will continue to have leg blood clots? ( or worse?)

Brief Answer: Low risks.... Detailed Answer: Hi, I understand your concern. Anticoagulants are prescribed to lower chances of DVT despite risk factors. Second DVT was an unfortunate accident; perhaps the INR level was not in adequate limits before the second episode. I presume he is started on newer anticougulants such as pradaxa or Xarelto. These newer anticoagulants are known to better than coumadin. Therefore despite him working at his computers for hours, the chance of another DVT is exceedingly low provided he takes his medicines religiously. Encourage him to move his limbs while working on his computer. Also encourage him to drink plenty of fluids while he is at work. Hope this helps. Let me know if you need clarifications. Regards
