Hello thanks for choosing HCM for your health related queries

I can understand your concern. You are taking Seroquel or Quetiapine 100 mg for sleep and GAD. Quetiapine belongs to second generation anti-psychotic drugs. The drug causes sedation and this sedation effects is sometimes used for drugs of insomnia. This is the probable reason they have prescribed you Seroquel. The drug will help in good sleep without causing much risk of dependence like conventional sleeping pills. The drug in low doses help in sleep and it also calms and relaxes individual.

Overall the drug is safe to use and is free of serious side effects. It may cause increased appetite and weight gain as side effect but that usually occur in high doses. Other mild side effects like dizziness, nausea, dryness of mouth, blurred vision are some times observed but they are usually self limited.

Thanks. I hope this helps you. Please don't hesitate to ask again for more doubts.

Brief Answer:
Quetiapine is not a sleeping pill

Detailed Answer:
Hello thanks for asking a follow up

No the drug is not a sleeping pill. The drug causes side effect of sedation and increased sleepiness which is usually utilised for good sleep. The drug has no risk of abuse potential and dependence like conventional sleeping pills. It is used off-label for management of insomnia.

The drug causes sleep and also doesn't affect sleep architecture. With in first few days of starting treatment slight changes in sleep architecture are seen but after few weeks of treatment it cause improvement in sleep without affects its architecture. So it causes sleep like natural sleep.

Thanks. Please ask again to clarify more things.
