Brief Answer:
Symptoms related to GERD;heart problems to rule out by following tests...

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

I understand your concerns.

1. GERD is referring to gastro-esophageal reflux and is characterized by returning of stomach acidic fluid into the esophagus. This is associated with changes in heart rate as esophagus and heart are close to each other.

2. Stimulation of parasympathimetic autonomic system is also another factor.

This is normal reaction to stomach hyperacidity .

3. If I was your caring doctor would advise to run further cardiac tests to rule out heart problems:
- ECG
- echocardiogram
- Holter monitoring

If everything is ok, then, what you are currently feeling is normally happening due to GERD.

Hope it was of help! Let me know if I can be of further assistance!

Brief Answer:
Uncontrolled GERD symptoms;consider increasing drug's dose as following...

Detailed Answer:
Hi back,

1. If your regular heart check ups resulted normal, then, nothing worrisome is happening to you.

2. Lanzoprazole is a proton-pump-inhibitor (PPI) that is used to reduce hyperacidity of the stomach and resolving your symptoms.

3. If you are still getting chest pains, then:
- the actual treatment with Lanzoprazole is not working well. You should: increase dosage or change to another PPI medication
- should be careful with foods/drinks you consume to avoid aggravation of the symptoms
- sleep with 2 pillows
- take antacids after eating, and consider taking ranitidine at bedtime (discuss it further with your doctor)

4. An upper endoscopy is also advised to re-evaluate the GERD problems.
Abdominal ultrasound is also recommended to exclude liver-gallbladder problems.

If everything is ok, then, everything is related to GERD which is not well controlled.
Hope it was of help!
