Brief Answer:
Please find details below

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXX,
Thanks for writing in to us.

I have read through your query in detail.
Hope your husband has got treated for all symptoms of H1N1 and is feeling better after discharge from hospital.

Please find my observations below
1. There are many causes of liver showing fatty changes as follows
(i) Increased intake of fatty foods and alcohol
(ii) Over weight and obese patients.
(iii) Those who have fatty liver running in family members.
(iv) Any liver condition that is changing appearance of liver.
(v) Mild fatty liver can also be there in many normal people

2, Serum ALT (SGPT) levels in healthy non-obese adults range from 0 to 35 units/liter. Since he has level of 80 units and is almost twice normal. This can be elevated in many causes including liver or general infections, eating fatty foods, taking medications, drinking alcohol. H1N1 infection can also cause elevated SGPT.

3. You can reduce his fat and alcohol intake if he takes alcohol regularly. Taking small amount of alcohol in party only is not a problem. Give him medicines on time as given by his doctor.

4. If your husband has family history of obesity and is over weight then get his lipid profile done to see if his cholesterol level is high. If cholesterol is high then he might have to consult cardiologist for medicine and take a well balanced diet.

5. If the SGPT has increased because of H1N1 infection then it will come down to normal after 3 months. Please do another liver function test after 3 months and see the result.

6. For heart burn, please avoid giving him spicy food and tell him to eat on time. If he wants to take spicy food then curds also should be taken. Also he should drink good amount of water and fresh juices. He should not do fasting and take small meals regularly. Alcohol and smoking if present then must be reduced. Mental stress should also be controlled at all times.

Hope this answers your question. Please feel free to correct any oversight in my interpretation of your problems and discuss them in detail as per your requirements.

Hope your query is answered.
Do write back if you have any doubts.

Regards,
Dr.Vivek
