Suggest Treatment For HSV1 Infection

default
Posted on Mon, 24 Aug 2015
Question: Recently diagnosed with HSV1 genital herpes.
However have had same bump/lesion for 1 week. It has not weeped, scabbed, changed and it does not hurt when I urinate or is it painful to touch at all.
I did possibly the worst thing and sterilised a pin and put a prick in lump and nothing came out.
Could I have been misdiagnosed?
I did have a swab done on the lump which came back positive for HSV1 but negative for HSV2.
I have had HSV1 since I was a child but never on the genital area.
I just feel disgusting and want it to go away!

Brief Answer:
Possibility of aphthous,Lipschutz and Betchet' disease have to be ruled out

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Welcome to HCM.
Thanks for posting your query.

The quality of photograph sent by you has no better clarity.
Had you have any oral sex performed on you by somebody else. HSV 1 over genitals is more common with oral sex as HIV 1 infection mostly a non venereal and manifest over and around nose and mouth. It can be transmitted to somebody's genitals through oral sex. It may remain painless with some individuals.

Swabs from the lesion can suggest the presence of Herpes infection and usually not differentiate between HSV 1 and 2. We can differentiate only by blood test, and viral culture analysis.
As you had HSV 1 infection since childhood (HSV 1 infection is common in childhood), the blood test also would have confirmed the present genital lesion as HSV 1.
You had mentioned that the genital bump was present for a week. Usually the vesicles in herpes infection would rupture to give rise to an ulcer within a day two.
The characters of the ulcers were not been visualized better in the photograph sent by due to its poor clarity.
Apthous ulcer, Lipschutz ulcers, Betchet' ulcers over genitals are also looking like this and are non-venereal origin.
If you consult a Dermato-venereologist they will examine and treat you appropriately.
Get well soon.

Thsnk you so much for your reply.
I just fund it weird that the bump/lesion hasnt really changed and doesnt hurt etc. i know that me pricking it with a pin only made it worse!

And i have only been with one partner and last time i had oral sex was around 3 weeks ago. I am unsure as to whether he has HSV1.

I will be going to doctors tomorrow for a blood test but in meantime will look up other diseases you mentioned.

Im just not convinced its herpes. Do you think i am wrong to not accept this?!

Kind Regards, XXXXXXX

Brief Answer:
Genital Herpes is also possible.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Welcome back.
Herpes Simplex would have manifested with grouped tiny vesicles (rarely 1-3), and the vesicles would rupture within a day to give rise to multiple grouped tiny ulcers. Usually painful. It is a self limiting disease and heal within 10-14 days. If you have such symptoms it could be due to HSV infection. Even then it would be very difficult to say whether it could be HSV 1 or 2.
Your physician will clarify these things and you will be better with his treatment.
Get well soon.
