Brief Answer:
Needs to rule out stone in kidney.

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for your query ,based on the facts that you have posted it appears that your husband is known to have Enlarged Prostate and sometimes gets pain in loin .

The pain in loin could be due to presence of stone in the kidney and needs to consult qualified Urologist for clinical and digital rectal examination(prostate enlargement) and get following basic tests done to confirm the diagnosis.
1) Urine routine and culture.
2) Ultrasound scanning of abdomen and pelvis
3) Serum PSA.
4) Renal function tests .

Further treatment will depend upon result of these tests and final diagnosis.Till then continue medicines that he is taking .

Hope I have answered your query ,please feel free to ask if you have more questions , I shall be happy to help you .
Thanks and Regards.

Thank you for your reply Dr. But if the stone is in the kidney, wouldn't the pain be in the back, rather than the groin area?

I do apologize for the mistake of the loin instead of groin.

Brief Answer:
Inguinal Hernia has to be ruled out .

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for follow up .
My earlier answer was based on your statement that he gets pain in LOIN .

The pain in groin can be due to presence of Inguinal Hernia which is common and secondary to Enlarged Prostate and needs to be ruled out .

Consult qualified Urologist and get the tests done suggested in my earlier reply.

Thanks and Regards
