Question: A 96-year old woman with congestive heart failure - nurses think she has a urinary tract infection today. Fever of 100.8 degrees. Symptom I don't understand: hands and feet jerking, except when she is lying down. Neurological problem?

Brief Answer:
Yes, it indicates a neurological problem.

Detailed Answer:
Hello and thanks for using HCM.

I have read your question and understand your concerns.

If urinary tract is confirmed, it may cause limbs and body jerks ( or chills) that are episodic and don't improve or worsen with certain body positions.

If the jerks improve after the person is laying down and worsen in sitting or upright position, it means that the person suffers from difficulty maintaining equilibrium.

At that age, this condition may be related to brain mass loss or cerebral atrophy, or repeated XXXXXXX strokes, and yes, it is a neurological problem, but urinary tract infection should be evaluated and treated first.

Hope you found the answer helpful.

Let me know if I can assist you further.

Greetings.
