Answered by Dr. Diptanshu Das (33 minutes later)
Brief Answer:
Treatment with antibiotics along with plenty of fluid intake

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for asking on HealthcareMagic.

Before trying to answer your question, I would need to ask:
1. Whether the diagnosis of UTI has already been made and if so, what are the results of urine analysis.
2. Has blood test been done? If so, what are the counts and what other test has been done.

Let me mention that Haemoglobin levels are not likely to be affected in case of urinary tract infection (UTI). So it can be low to high depending on other independent factors.

Treatment is done by the use of antibiotics. Usually antibiotics like ofloxacin are used but the exact choice depends on the sensitivity reports or the discretion of the doctor. Plenty of fluids are to be taken alongwith.

I would not suggest self medication.

Hope that helps.

Sir thank you very much for answering me.. This is not for self medication.. I am the trainee doctor in rural health service... Urine analysis shows albumin: Teace., Sugar: Nil., RBC: 2-4., WBC: 8-10; Epithelial cells: Plenty; Bacteria : Plenty;
GRBS: 79mg%;
Total WBC Count: 7610/cubic mm
Had high fever- intermittent-3 days, subsided with antipyretics.

Does he require blood tranfusion for Hb of 8

How do you treat anemia & UTI separately?
doctor
Answered by Dr. Diptanshu Das (5 hours later)
Brief Answer:
Treatment independent for the two conditions

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for writing back. Sorry for not being able to reply earlier.

The presence of albumin in urine especially when associated with a pus cell count of 8-10/hpf is likely to indicate urinary tract infection. I do not understand what you mean by GRBS. Antibiotics like ofloxacin twice daily for at least 7 days would be advisable. Plenty of fluid intake alongwith is advisable.

The cause of anaemia needs to be evaluated first. Initial treatment with iron supplementation (eg. with Tonoferon drops) is suggested. A haemoglobin level of 8 mg/dl is an indication for blood transfusion for a child of this age but you need to understand that a transfusion will not solve the problem permanently. The cause needs to be managed. The treatment of anaemia would in any case be independent of the treatment of UTI.

Hope that helps.
