Suggest Treatment For UTI

Question: Hello. I was diagnosed with a UTI Thursday and put on Cipro 500mg 2 times a day. Yesterday I was in the ER; complained of burning skin feeling and dizziness and right sided head pain and ear pain. They said I had fluid and pressure in my middle ear (right). Nothing about why my skin would feel like it's burning. For the ear I was prescribed Amoxicillin 875mg twice a day. I just got the Amox filled. My concern is that I've been having bad anxiety bordering on panic since taking my first dose of Cipro and really bad dry mouth, palpitations. One pharmacist said that Amox wouldn't work on the UTI, so I really should keep on with the Cipro and start Amox; another said I could stop the Cipro and the Amox should work. I'm not sure what to do because I do suffer from panic disorder (they had me hooked up to the heart moniter in ER and everything was fine), but the palpitations are getting worse or rather more frequent and the only thing I've been taking is Cipro and at this point I'm more worried about my head pain that centers around my ear than the UTI. Correction I did take 120mg of Pseudoephedrine around noon, but just notices a clearer head. Any suggestions?

Brief Answer:
Amox not a good drug for UTI

Detailed Answer:
Hello

Thanks for the query

1.Amox is not a good drug for treating UTI, so recommend that you continue to take ciproflox.
2.The headache is because of the middle ear infection for which you have been prescribed Amox.
3. I have seen good improvement symptomatically with tab betahistidine thrice daily than pseudoephidrine, I also recommend that you take tab paracetamol for the headache
3. I also suggest that you take tab metoprolol for the anxiety and palpitations. Sometimes hyperthyroidism can cause similar issues so please get a thyroid profile done the next time

I hope I was of help, if you have any further queries please get back to me

MY thyroid workup actually just came back good. So it's okay to take those doses of Amoxicillin and Cipro together?

Cipro: 500mg x2 daily
Amox: 875 x2 daily

Just want to be safe and thank you for the suggestions.
