Question : I was diagnosed with a rather nasty uti on tuesday morning, been on trimethoprim since then and my symptoms (nausea, burning when urinating and passing quite a lot of blood also, constant need to urinate, incontinence, fever and fatigue) have all gone now. My need to pee is arriving about an hr after urinating and its only slightly uncomfortable to urinate, no blood, no pain etc. my husband has been wanting to have sex as im feeling better than i was (couldnt believe how ill i was) but im worried about it making it worse as i read somewhere sex can aggravate it and cause symptoms to return. I still have 3 days left of antibiotics to take before i finish the course. Is it safe to have sex or does hubby have to wait and if so how long is recommended
Brief Answer:
This is probably safe...
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
sexual contact can be a risk factor for urinary tract infection in women and some women have to take antibiotic prophylaxis (preventive antibiotic usage in a low dose) to avoid getting infected. Since you're afebrile and feeling OK and taking antibiotics, I don't foresee any trouble with sexual contact. Taking the antibiotic also prevents new pathogens to move into your bladder and settle there...
I hope I've helped!
