Question: Hi Doctor,

My son (10 months old) slipped and fell yesterday, not from great height but on the ground level itself. I can see some blackish color on his forehead, I am attaching a picture for your reference. Kindly let us know if this is a thing to be worried about and should we see a doctor immediately for a physical examination?

Thanks & Regards,

Explained below,

Detailed Answer:

Hello,

I have gone through your query and the attached picture and can certainly understand your concern.
As I am not able to physically examine your son, I would like to know few more related details in order you further with the proper line of management:

- How long since the bruise has appeared?
- Any particular swelling or increase in size of the bruise, any change in color etc?
- Was the child able to be consoled while crying after the incident?
- Any noticeable changes in vision or movement of the pupils?
- Any episode of vomiting since the incident?
- Any particular changes in the movement of the child while playing such as any weakness etc?

Meanwhile, I would suggest you to do the following:
* Apply a pack of ice properly wrapped in a towel or cloth, for 10-15mins. Take care not to apply ice directly over the skin.
* If your son complains of pain, you can chose to give Calpol drops.
* Watch carefully your child for the next 24 hours, if sleeping, watch every 2-3 hrs for any of the above signs.

I hope this helps,
Please feel free to discuss further,

Regards

Hi Doctor,

Thanks for the explanation. Find below the answers to the queries:

- How long since the bruise has appeared?
There is no bruise as such, the mark (change in colour where he was hit by the impact) was there yesterday and we continue to find it today as well.

- Any particular swelling or increase in size of the bruise, any change in color etc?
No swelling, only change in colour to blackish as annotated in the image attached earlier.

- Was the child able to be consoled while crying after the incident?
Yes, he stopped crying in couple of minutes.

- Any noticeable changes in vision or movement of the pupils?
Haven't observed as such, but I believe no noticeable changes in vision or movement. He is observing birds and dogs the same way he used to do earlier, so, I don't think there are any changes.

- Any episode of vomiting since the incident?
No

- Any particular changes in the movement of the child while playing such as any weakness etc?
He is very active while playing just as before the hit, no sign of weakness.

Please let us know if everything is fine with him!

Thanks & Regards,

Brief Answer:
No further action required.

Detailed Answer:
Hello again,
Thanks for writing back,

Glad to know that your baby hasn't shown any of the symptoms that demands an immediate care by a physician. As for now, I would suggest you not to get worried over it. After 2-3days, you may chose to apply a (warm towel) or hot fomentation for 10-20 mins several times a day, this will help to fade the bruise quickly.

I hope this helps,

Please feel free to discuss further of any related queries, or else kindly close the query and share your positive feedback if any,

Kind regards
