Question : I'm a 63 yr old male, I broke my left femur 14 month's ago, it is about 80% healed, they removed the screw closest to my knee from the rod about 4 months ago. That took away the pain from the inside part of my knee but now have pain when walking which seems to be from where the bone broke down to the top part of the knee, the more I walk on it the worse it gets, after two days of physio I'm back to walking with crutches and it takes 2 to 3 day's to get rid of the pain. Is it possible the rod is too long and is bottoming out on the bone above the knee or the rod is moving inside the femur causing the pain? should I be going to physio? I'm starting to use a machine to make the bone grow faster.
Brief Answer:
Delayed union on the femur
Detailed Answer:
Hi there
Thanks for the query
It appears that the fracture hasn't healed which is why it is still painful and also the reason the screw was removed near the knee, to facilitate healing.
If the rod is too long, then you would have severe knee swelling and inability to flex the knee well.
Physiotherapy is important to strengthen the muscles around the hip and knee.
