Question : I had a car accident end of March, and had pedicle screw in my back with degloving injury in my back which was managed as per the hospital report. However, i am looking for a consultant who has experience with the degloving injury for consultation and to answer few of my concerns. I am unable to find good doctor here and i prefer someone in Dubai, but dont mind to travel if needed.

Doctor who placed the pedicle screws also noted that the degloving was debrided, irrigated, and closed over drain. This was in March 26th this year, and my question is 1- what do i expect after this? Will it effect my active life? 2- how will i know if infection occure below the skin? 3- i have strange movement of back muscles when i raise my hand so will this remain forever? 4- is it true that this degloving will remain forever? Meaning the separation of skin and tissue?

As explained.
Detailed Answer:
Noted the findings noted by your Doctor.
Debridement, irrigation and closure over the drain is a standard procedure done after any injury including the degloving injury. Yours was done on March 26 this year- more than two and half months back.
Your queries:
1- What do i expect after this? Will it effect my active life?
> You should expect a complete recovery. This should not affect your active life except for minor sequel, if there were no complications.
2- How will i know if infection occur below the skin?
There will be signs of infection: namely redness, pain, swelling, pus flowing if there is an open wound.
3- I have strange movement of back muscles when I raise my hand so will this remain forever?
> Please elucidate on this point, please explain what exactly is happening, then only it may be possible for me to comment on this point.
4- Is it true that this degloving will remain forever? Meaning the separation of skin and tissue?
> Withe the proper care and procedure, which it looks was done in your case, the healing practically starts within 4 hours. The body is the healer. we just assist it enhancing the process of healing.
Hence degloving is not forever. If the conditions were favorable the healing must have completed in the first week of the procedure and now after such a long time the remodelling, a process again governed by the body itself must be going on.
I have tried my best to explain in as simple way as is possible, avoiding the medical jargon; please feel free to ask relevant queries, and share anything you would like to or if you feel that there is a gap of communication between us.
