Question : I have been told by an ophthalmologist that a small part of my cornea is detached. Should the Dr. have gone ahead, after ascertaining that, and done surgery for cataracts?

Brief Answer:
Surgery to be delayed for a while.

Detailed Answer:
My dear,
Thanks for sending your query to us.
We do not want to land up in a situation where two different problems of corneal abrasion and cataract are to be managed simultaneously. It is always better to settle the cornea with bandage contact lens,as has been done and then manage cataract as the drops to be used in these codetions have opposite effects.Again corrneal abrasion is an emergency and cataract is a elective, non emergency surgery.
Very rightly your cornea is being treated then cataract surgery will be done.
Any further query in this regard, please do get back to me.

The Dr. already did the cataract surgery, now I find that my cornea is not adhering properly, and wanted to know if cataract surgery should have been done with the doctor having noted the nonadherence of part of the cornea. A bandage contact lens has been placed now to try to encourage adherence of cornea.

Brief Answer:
Corneal ulcer

Detailed Answer:
My dear,
Good for you to get back to me.
This corneal damage must have occurred during surgery .This is not uncommon and can occur, though rarely. It has happened with me twice. The management after cataract surgery changes.Proper medication for cataract starts Only after cornea is healed
This was not present before surgery and has occurred during surgery.
