Posted on Mon, 4 May 2015
Question: My 18 year old daughter , one week or so before her period, cries for no reason, can't handle criticism or perceived criticism and is easily angered. Is there a vitamin or supplement I can give her? I need to help her through this and I have no idea how. Thank you

Brief Answer:
Supplements will waste her money and have no effect.

Detailed Answer:
Hello There, Thanks for coming to HealthCareMagic.

I'm glad you are trying to find a path for your daughters recovery. It;s important that she have a good support network to get her through this time.

What you are describing is an emotional disturbance. It could be a clinical issue like Depression, or a minor issue like stress. It's difficult for me to figure that out based on the information you've provided so far.

Emotional disturbances CAN, occasionally be complicated by nutritional deficiencies (certain vitamins and minerals). But you must understand, that it is exceedingly rare that such a problem like this would be caused by or TREATED by a nutritional supplement. They simply won't do the trick and will end up wasting financial resources.

You're daughter needs an evaluation by a Health Care Provider with Mental Health Training.. a Psychiatrist would be ideal, a Psychologist would be great.. but a General Practitioner or a Family Doc would do just great to evaluate her situation.

I understand that you do not have insurance.. so you will have to explore government supported options for Health Care. Does your town have a General/Local/Community Hospital? A Community Clinic? It may take time for her to get an appointment.. but it's worth it to get the ball rolling.

At the same time, I don't know where you live... but I would strongly suggest that you explore options for government insurance, be it Medicaid or NHS or CGS, etc.

Make sense? I hope my advice helps you plan your next move and I hope I can help you further. I look forward to your reply.
