Question : I have a small wound on the top of my hand that is having trouble healing because I keep using my hand and fingers. It's probably fine, but like to err on the side of caution. Wondering if there is anything I can do to speed up the healing process and also want to make sure there is no sign that it could be getting infected.

I've had it for approx. 1 week...it's red around the wound but no streaking. It doesn't hurt and I don't feel sick. I just don't want it to turn into an infection.

I poured hydrogen p on it and now it's white on top - am sure it's from the peroxide.

Detailed Answer:
Hi and welcome.

As I can see, there are signs of infection such as redness and skin bullous changes. It would be good to have an antibiotic course with an Amoxicilin (Augmentin or Clavax) 2X1 grams for 7 days which is antibiotic that require prescription.

Also, you should not apply peroxide. Put some silicon based dressing such as Granuflex/ Aquacel.

Also, keep the wound clean and cover with sterile gauze. If there is no improvement, you should see a surgeon and do incision and drainage.

In some cases, skin grafts may be required. But at this point, I think it will heal on above-mentioned measures only.

Wish you good health.
Regards
