Suggest Treatment For A Soft Mass On The Abdomen

Question: my wife who is 64 years old and 5'1'' and 113 lbs and eats well and exercises constantly and is virtually the picture of health has developed a softball size mass in her abdomen..we went to the hospital yesterday and she had a cat scan and biopsy ....the only thing we found out is this softball size mass is not affecting any organs right now and my wife is in no pain or discomfort....we will not get results of the biopsy until wednesday when we have an appt. with an oncologist...she just started taking phosomax about a month ago for bones....please email me with any opinions and thoughts before we see the dr. on wednesday...my e mail is YYYY@YYYY are the chances that this is cancer or could we be lucky and it be a cyst or something else...thanks for your quick response..XXXX

Hello dear.
I have gone through the details and i can understand your concern.

However, I am sorry to say that the information is incomplete. I would like to know in which area of abdomen , she has developed the mass lesion as abdomen in general is a very big area.

The CT scan can highlight the area exactly and give preliminary information. It may be a benign tumor, a malignant tumor, a benign cyst, or even an infectious lesion.

Please share the CT report with me. If the CT scan is suspicious for cancer, then the final call will be by biopsy only (which is already underway as you've mentioned). You can simply upload/attach the report at the reports section of this webpage.

i am sorry that i do not have access to the cat scan at this time...all we were told is there is a softball size mass that is not pushing on any organs at this time...my wife describes the bump that she feels as just to the side of her belly button...unfortunately this is all the info i have right now and i guess our real question is based on your experience do you think it is cancer or something else...i know that is real hard to answer but i was looking for some optimism in the days before wednesday when we see the dr and hear the biopsy results...thanks for your quick response and i will look for your next response soon..XXXX

Please relax till the results are arrived. Without examining the patient, it is very difficult to reach a conclusion. Still, from my clinical experience, the possibility of caner can't be ruled out yet. I hope you'll understand.
