Brief Answer:
A brace can help.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for posting your query.
A sprained thumb is taped in a neutral position. It is usually a glass holding position. For proper healing it is best to keep the thumb immobilized. Putting a cast around the thumb in a glass holding position is the best option. You can also use a brace to keep the thumb in place. Do ask for a brace to keep the thumb in neutral position at your nearest pharmacy.
I hope this answers your query.

Hello -
Thanks for your reply. I'm wondering if there is a site on the internet that actually shows the taping procedure? I've used a brace but would like to tape it when I have to use my hand for normal daily activities. Any site direction would certainly help.
I've tried WebMD but could not find any help...hence my question to you.

Thank you,
XXXXXXX

Brief Answer:
Do keep it immobilized.

Detailed Answer:
Hello.
Thanks for writing again.
I also could not find a site that can help you. You will have to consult an orthopedician personally for this so that he can explain the best possible position and the process according to your need and severity of the problem. I would rather advise you to give rest to the thumb and avoid all painful activities. Do restrict your daily activities and immobilize the thumb for an earlier healing.
Hope my answer is helpful.
