                                            May be a haematoma
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thank you for posting the query.
Swollen and bruised finger after such type of injury does not necessarily mean that the bone must be broken, but underlying fracture cannot be entirely ruled out unless a X ray is done.
If the finger movements are normal and if you can work with that hand, then its less likely that you may have a fracture. You need to just splint the finger, take rest, analgesic tablets like ibuprofen and some ice packs. Keep the hand elevated over a pillow during sleep.
If the swelling and the bruise shows no signs of improvement in 2-3 days,i would suggest you to get a X ray done to rule out a underlying bony fracture. There are chances that there may be hairline fracture beneath the bruise.
Other symptoms that you may experience are throbbing pain, stiffness, inability to move the finger or make a complete fist, fever (if the haematoma gets infected)
DO NOT APPLY ANYTHING WARM TO THE AFFECTED AREA.
Do let me know about the Xray once you get it done.
I hope the naswer was useful.
Thank you.
Kind regards...
