Suggest Treatment For Abdominal Bloating And Gas

default
Posted on Thu, 12 Nov 2015
Question: I have had bloating and gas for 2 days. I have pain like pulled muscles in the upper left abdomen area. So it hurts when I cough. I am able to have bowel movements. Since last night I have been eating a very light mild diet like applesauce and broth. The bloating and gas is somewhat less today but the "pulled muscle" pain is still there. I started taking a probiotic 4 days ago but only took one tablet. Thought that might help with my indigestion that I have been experiencing the last few weeks. I am 65 year old female.

Brief Answer:
A few recommendations, and investigations required

Detailed Answer:
Hello ma'am and welcome.

Thank you for writing to us.

I have gone through your query with diligence and would like you to know that I am here to help. Your symptoms do display the possibility of this being a gastric condition, but which one exactly only adequate investigations can tell; but some of the most likely ones include:

+Peptic ulcer disease
+Gastritis
+Hiatus hernia
and a few others.

My recommendations would be the following:

+Drink plenty of water
+Visit a doctor for an upper GI endoscopy
+Use antacids on a regular basis (e.g. ranitidine, omeprazole, etc.) 15 minutes before each meal
+Avoid smoking
+Avoid alcohol
+Have 5-6 smaller meals instead of 2-3 larger ones
+Avoid carbonated drinks
+Avoid stress
+Do not overeat
+Mild walking exercise about an hour after each meal
+High fiber dier
+Avoid fatty food
+Avoid fried food
+Avoid oily food
+Avoid spicy food

I understand that my recommendations might seem basic, but you will be surprised to see how far they go to help you. But, it is indeed important for you to speak to your doctor and go about a few investigations for the confirmation of the diagnosis.

Please also do not hesitate to write back to me for any further clarifications, I am always here to help.

Best wishes.
