Question: My sister, age 60 has a very swollen stomach. No vomiting or nausea. She is constipated one day and has
diarrhea the next. She looks like she is about 9 months pregnant and she has no appetite. She does take medications, has rheumatoid arthritis. No pain in her stomach. Drinks a lot of water. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

Brief Answer:
need to see doctor

Detailed Answer:
Hi and welcome.
I think that she should visit doctor and do some tests, especially basic lab and abdominal xray. In most cases this is caused by constipation, but there may be some more serious obstruction of colon and it may require further diagnostic tests and treatment, these include ct scan and colonoscopy. She should eat easier food and drink more fluids, eat more fruits and high fibre food. But,as I said tests are required to see is there free passage of intestinal content or there is obstruction that may lead to serious consewuances. Wish you good health. Regards
